New Berlin is a village in Sangamon County, Illinois, United States with a population of about 1,200 people. The village lies along the original alignment of historic U.S. Route 66 (Illinois Route 4). New Berlin is part of the Springfield, Illinois metropolitan area, located about 10 minutes west of the capital city.

The library opened on July 3, 1999, and serves most of the area encompassed by the Community Unit School District #16. This area includes Berlin, Curran, Island Grove, Loami, Maxwell Township and New Berlin. Now the library has a growing collection of over 22,000 books, magazines, videos, and varied materials as well as 16,000 electronic books. The Library District serves a population of 4,371.
